KIC InnoEnergy Reopens 2016 Call for Innovation Proposals

Further opportunity for sustainable energy innovators to apply for business support and funding before 11th October 2016

Following the success of its 2016 Call for Innovation Proposals, KIC InnoEnergy, the innovation engine for sustainable energy across Europe, has reopened the Call for a second phase starting on 1st June.

Now in its fifth year, the Call seeks European businesses - start-ups, SMEs or larger, who already have innovative sustainable energy projects at the research and development stage - but who need help in getting their product to market.

The initial 2016 Call, which closed in April, received over 500 registrations of interest from innovators across Europe. KIC InnoEnergy now hopes to encourage additional applications.
The second phase will run until 11th October 2016. Once the Call is closed, the most promising projects will be invited to present their concepts to KIC InnoEnergys Assessment Committees. The successful applicants will be announced on 19th December 2016.
Diego Pavia, Chief Executive Officer of KIC InnoEnergy, said:

"Im delighted to be able to open up the Call for a second time this year. We had an amazing response to the first phase but, by reopening the Call, we hope to receive even more applications from those who either missed out on the previous deadline or who are applying for the first time.

"The energy sector is undergoing unprecedented change and facing significant challenges. If we are to reduce emissions, while ensuring a sustainable and affordable energy future, innovation will be a critical factor in our success. Our job is to help unlock that innovation, to nurture it and, crucially, get it to market.

"This is what the Call for Innovation Proposals is all about. It creates connections that take projects forward. We bring innovators together with industry and other partners from all across Europe, who can help commercialise what, until previously, has just been a concept.

"This will be the seventh Call launched in five years. So far weve invested €133 million in helping over 70 new products and services on their way to their first customers. As we open our doors for the second time this year to a new intake of innovators, our message is once again: join us and let us help you turn your concept into a commercial reality."

The Call is looking for applications relating to innovations in KIC InnoEnergys eight "Thematic Fields":
• Clean coal and gas technologies
• Energy storage
• Energy efficiency
• Energy from chemical fuels
• Renewable energies
• Smart and efficient buildings and cities
• Smart electric grid
• Sustainable nuclear and renewable convergence
