Ballard Hosts Canada's Minister of Environment and Climate Change During Trade Mission to China

Minister McKenna's meeting with Ballard was an opportunity for her to learn more about this Canadian clean technology company and consider how best the Government of Canada can support companies in the clean energy sector.

VANCOUVER, CANADA and FOSHAN, CHINA - Today Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP; TSX: BLD) hosted Canadas Minister of Environment and Climate Change, The Honorable Catherine McKenna, in the City of Foshan during her trade mission to China.

Minister McKennas meeting with Ballard was an opportunity for her to learn more about this Canadian clean technology company and consider how best the Government of Canada can support companies in the clean energy sector, including advocating to Chinese officials regarding possible partnerships between Canadian and Chinese companies.

During her announcement of the trade mission ten days ago at a Toronto Board of Trade event, Minister McKenna stated, "China, the worlds largest emitter of greenhouse gases, is making generational changes in how it acquires and uses energy."

Also noting that China is introducing a cap-and-trade system that will cover the power generation, iron, steel, chemical and building materials industries, Minister McKenna said China will soon have the worlds largest carbon market and added, "The investments that China will need in the clean tech and renewable sector to meet its plan are enormous. This is a huge opportunity for Canadian business."

Alfred Wong, Ballards Director - Asia Pacific said, "We are extremely pleased to have this opportunity to discuss and demonstrate how the practical application of fuel cell technology is helping to further environmental objectives with Minister McKenna. We see the progress being made by Ballard in Chinas mass transit market as an excellent example of important steps being taken to address the countrys air quality and climate change challenges."

During the meeting with Ballard, Minister McKenna and her delegation rode on one of 12 Ballard-powered fuel cell buses that were commissioned in the past several months in the District of Sanshui, in the City of Foshan in the Province of Guangdong. In addition, 12 fuel cell buses were commissioned in the City of Yunfu, bringing the total number of Ballard-powered buses deployed in both cities to 24, as part of the Chinese Governments plan to address air quality in urban centers through zero tailpipe emission mass transit solutions. As announced by Ballard in a September 2015 press release, 300 fuel cell buses are currently planned to be deployed in the Cities of Foshan and Yunfu.

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide - the ultimate solution for fast and easy installation of the rail-less RockIt racking system on composition shingle roofs. Smart Slide conforms to UL 441 and TAS 100 (A)-95 for wind and wind-driven rain, providing a super-strong watertight seal that is achieved through compression, in most cases without the need for additional sealant. The waterproofing sealant is embedded deep into the granules of the shingle, thanks to the integrated flexible foam layer that provides cushioning. This ensures a secure fit that conforms to any architectural-style shingle. With UltraGrip Technology™, you can rely on a secure installation, as it absorbs the movement created by thermal expansion and contraction. The pre-installed sealing pads are compatible with all composition shingle roofs, making it the ideal choice, even in ambient temperatures as low as 5 degrees.
