Energy Storage Leader Green Charge Recognized in Greentech Media 2017 Grid Edge Awards for Public/Private Sector Projects in San Diego and San Jose

Virtual Power Plant and Distributed Energy Resource Management System Projects Given Respective Honors

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Green Charge today announced two of its California energy storage projects have been recognized in Greentech Medias 2017 Grid Edge Awards.

Greentech Media asserted the public/private sector projects, San Diego Gas & Electrics virtual power plant and Pacific Gas and Electric Companys distributed energy resource management system define the future of the integrated distributed electric grid.

For the past four years, Greentech Media has been giving its Grid Edge Awards to the leading companies and projects that incorporate distributed energy resources, energy-enabled customers, and other emerging trends that are upending the century-old concept of centralized, unidirectional electricity delivery. This years award winners -- nominated by and voted on by energy industry stakeholders, including the team of analysts at GTM Research -- represents an even broader set of participants in this energy revolution.

Green Charge is working with SDG&E and San Diegos two largest school districts, Poway USD and Grossmont UHSD on the largest storage-enabled VPP in the US, 14.4 MWh. This system will provide targeted relief to the utility through aggregation and control of distributed energy storage. For the schools, grid service revenues realized increase the value of energy storage for their districts. This project paves the way for the smart grid of the future and how consumers and grid operators benefit from distributed energy storage.

Green Charge is also working with PG&E to deploy a fleet of energy storage systems in San Jose to demonstrate how customer-sited energy storage supports the grid during periods of high electric demand. Green Charge provides capacity relief at targeted distribution substations, and Green Charges GridSynergy platform integrates with DERMS to provide several grid services including voltage anomaly mitigation and economic dispatch. Throughout, and after the conclusion of the pilot, Green Charge will continue to provide energy savings services to customers in San Jose.
