Third Sun Solar Advocates Net Metering in Ohio

Third Sun Solar, the largest solar panel installation company in Ohio, is actively fighting to protect the rights of Ohio businesses and property owners who want to increase the state's energy independence. On Oct. 3, Third Sun Solar representative Michael Smucker testified before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio staff, advocating for the protection and strengthening of Ohio's net metering rules. Smucker said PUCO never finalized the last set of rules from the 2012; Ohio law now requires a review of those standards. Ohio's net metering rule (O.A.C. 4901:1-10-28) is one of the rules under review.

PVinsights: Solar Edged Down, Thin Trading Limited Losses

Polysilicon prices edged lower this week, declining for a second week and sapping more strength from a third-quarter rally, amid signs that global glut in downstream may not be clearing as the bulls had hoped. The prices tiptoed lower in China, pressured by weaker multi-crystalline wafer prices but supported by the tight supply and the solid demand from mono-crystalline wafer makers which afford polysilicon's high prices. The polysilicon supply took a brief knock in overseas market as the explosion of Wacker's American plant restricted the supply, although healthy inventories and other suppliers, like Hemlock and REC silicon, offered support to the polysilicon supply.

PVinsights: Strong USD Damped Solar Prices

Polysilicon prices came off from three-week highs this week amid RMB depreciation against USD. As tight supply seemed to dwindle and buyers remained conservative of purchasing high-priced polysilicon, polysilicon prices in China hold steady in RMB term, but were translated into a moderate decline in dollar term with weakening RMB. Meanwhile, polysilicon prices in overseas stayed immobile from last week. Some polysilicon suppliers attempted to leverage the supply reduction caused by the factory explosion in Tennessee of Wacker Chemie to boost up the prices. However, such attempts were mostly failed as major buyers outside China continued to realize their long-term contracts with sufficient supply instead of purchasing expensive polysilicon in the spot market.

LG Solar Unveils NeON R with Enhanced Aesthetics and Energy Savings

The NeON R module features "Back Contact" cell technology delivering an entirely black panel that is aesthetically pleasing and energy efficient. The cell's seamless, surface blends perfectly into nearly all rooftop designs while the module's electrodes are positioned on the rear of the cell. Using LG's N-type cell structure, the panels produce 365W of energy, up to 7.3kWp, compared to 5.8kWp of the p-type cell. The module's new design minimizes LID, thereby delivering a longer lifespan and increased energy output.
