Keep Cool with a Solar Attic Fan

Solar powered attic fans are cool! Having worked in attics for many years installing solar water heaters I know all too well how hot they get. I've measured 140 degrees F! Most homes have manual roof vents, which allow some nominal air movement, but they can't keep up with the sun pounding down all day.

My Geothermal Home Sweet Home

My long and winding path through the selection of the best heating and cooling system began six months ago and culminated with the selection of a geothermal system, which is right for us for so many reasons.

Off-Grid Know How Connects Countryside to The Net

Wagner & Co is a leading provider of integrated solar thermal and solar electric systems solutions. Off -grid solutions were among the first solar electric applications and yet also developed into a particularly innovative field, where new technologies, approaches and combinations are being tested. Off-grid - or "Island" - systems, as they are also called, can be found in many new infrastructure projects.

Single Seat Volkswagen

You can go to Shanghai for a vacation, buy two or more of these cars, one for your wife and one for yourself, and one for each of your kids, have them shipped home and still spend less money than if you bought a car at home.

Solar Stock Update - July 31/09 - Dow's best month since Oct. '02

The Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded its best month in nearly seven years, posting an 882-point boost since Friday, July 3. In fact it was the best July for Wall Street in twenty years. Gains for the week for the Dow and NASDAQ were meager however, with both gaining less than a percent. The 20SSI decreased 5.8% from last week's close but the net gain since July 3 was nearly 22 points.

Solar-Powered Compactors Put the Squeeze on Trash Collection Costs

On April 30, 2009, Mayor Michael Nutter unveiled the first of 500 BigBelly solar-powered trash compactors and 210 companion single-stream recycling units to be installed throughout Center City Philadelphia. The solar compactors save time, money and fuel by reducing demand for collection trips. The compactors are also smart trash receptacles: each unit sends a wireless signal to alert staff when it is full, so managers can optimize collection routes in real time based on data from every machine in the field.

Superconductor Electricity Pipelines: An Optimal Long-Haul Transmission Solution

While the United States is rich in renewable resources for the production of green electricity, expansion and modernization of the North American power grid will be required to transmit that power to where it is needed.

Technical Due Diligence of the Fuhrländer 1.5 MW Wind Turbine

AAER Wind Energy have partnered with Fuhrländer to manufacture the Fuhrländer 1.5 MW wind turbine on a license in Canada. To identify and minimize technical risks in the process of buying 1.5 MW wind turbines manufactured by AAER, Sky Power Corp, Canada's leading independent renewable energy company awarded the contract to SGS to carry out Technical Due Diligence for the wind turbine technology.

The Many Faces of Green in Architecture

Much is made these days of attaching the word œgreen to products and/or buildings as a means of promoting a product or building in the market place even though the greenness or sustainability may be tenuous at best. I believe it is timely to make clear and to discriminate as to just exactly what do we really mean when we refer to a building as being green as well what kind of green are we referring to. We are all not talking about the same green therefore I wish to examine what I see as the main categories of œgreen.

Using Smart Technology to create a RealGreenHome

In 2005 I swapped a perfectly good town house on 198sq m of land for 5400 sqm of land of œvalley Grassey Forest vegetation. This block some 22 km from the centre of Melbourne Australia (Australia's 2nd largest city) was going to be perfect for my growing family.

Venture Capital Gets Back In The Cleantech Game

Venture capitalists increased investments in alternative energy by 73 percent over the past three months, according to a report issued Wednesday , an indication that the horrible market conditions from earlier this year may have abated. Investors are also be growing more confident because the government is making good on promises to try to shift the national energy policy more toward wind, solar and other renewable technologies. Venture capital investment totaled $572 million in the second quarter, according to Ernst & Young LLP.

China to subsidize 50% cost of Solar Projects

China's Ministry of Finance has unwrapped plans to subsidise half the cost of building independent solar-array projects in the country , including new power transmission and distribution systems to link projects to the grid. The subsidy will stretch to 70% for solar projects in remote regions with no current power supply, as the country continues searching for ways to create demand for its domestic PV industry.

Utility-scale, Zero-emissions Hydrogen Power Plant

Jetstream Wind Inc. officials said the $219 million plant would use electricity from wind, solar and other renewable energy sources to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen would then be burned in a turbine - similar to those used by natural gas-fired power plants - to generate enough electricity to power about 6,000 homes and businesses. The 10-megwatt plant also would be capable of capturing and storing oxygen in liquid and gaseous forms for use in the medical field or other secondary markets.
