Technology Supports Global Sustainability

Cloud-based software is one technological advancement that can pay dividends in the development and management of a wide variety of renewable energy projects, from wind farms, solar farms and geothermal plants to hydropower and biomass facilities.

The Bright Idea Behind Power Classes

In order to avoid costs for AC panel upgrades, it makes sense for inverter manufacturers to provide power classes that get the most solar power on an existing customer's AC panel without upgrading it.

The future of solar Feed-in Tariffs in the UK

We're extremely close to reaching the point at which renewable electricity costs as little to generate as electricity from fossil fuels, so it's imperative that we don't take a backward step.

Hydrogen Gas / Smoke Detector with Intrusion Alarm for Battery Room

From Eagle Eye Power Solutions: The Eagle Eye HGD-3000 Hydrogen Gas and Smoke Detector with (optional) Silent Intrusion Alarm is designed for unattended battery installations or remote shelters containing gassing lead acid batteries and charging systems... Lead-acid batteries on charge emit hydrogen gas after reaching the 80% recharge point. When mixed with enough air, hydrogen becomes a highly flammable gas that can ignite easily with just a spark, destroying equipment and harming personnel. The lower explosive level (LEL) for hydrogen is 4.1% by volume. Hydrogen Gas Detection Attach the HGD-3000 to the wall, ceiling, or optional junction box using the mounting holes at the top and bottom of the detector box. The HGD-3000 will turn on an exhaust fan when hydrogen gas levels reach 1% and will alarm at 2%. This alarm consists of a local 80db horn, a flashing red LED, and a dry contact switch closure for remote alarming. Smoke Detection The photoelectric smoke sensor detects minute combustion products from smoldering wire insulation, battery cases, and other material. When smoke is detected, a distinctive alarm is emitted from the 80db horn and a separate dry contact switch is activated. At this time, the exhaust fan is inhibited in order to deny the fire increased oxygen from outside air. Temperature, Loss of Power, & Intrusion During normal operation and in the absence of an alarm condition, an internal thermostat will turn on the exhaust fan at a preset temperature to reduce heat buildup in the room. Loss of power to the unit will also generate a dry contact alarm. Additionally, an optional infrared intrusion alarm will trigger a silent dry contact switch. Product website

Solar Powered Water Pumping: Combining two hot topics, Water and Solar

A solar powered water system is one of the easiest solar power systems to install and will ultimately save you time and money.

Ports/Trains - Great Non-road EV Opportunities for Utilities

Unlike on-road electric vehicle programs which can be complicated and depend, in part, upon factors outside a utility's control, non-road programs are less risky and comparatively simple to design, operate, and control.

How Virtual Irradiance Tops Relative Performance Analysis

We think the satellite-image based Virtual Irradiance approach is a scalable and reliable solution to the problem of understanding solar PV performance.

Is Climate Change a Reality?

Yes, history has shown that there has been global climate changes that were not brought about by human activities; but-and this is a big but-human activity is accelerating global change and not for the better.

Top 10 Sustainable Cities and their Efforts in the Renewable Energy Sector

The Sustainable Cities Index from ARCADIS shows that among the top ten cities in the list, most are from Europe, while there are a few cities which are from Asia. Strangely, not a single city from North America makes it to the top-ten list.

Renewables share of U.S. energy consumption highest since 1930s

A greater use of wood for home heating and steadily growing installation of solar systems are the main contributors to increasing renewable energy consumption in residential buildings and, to a lesser extent, in commercial buildings.

Upcoming Tradeshow, Conference & Exhibition Summary - June, July, August 2015

Here is a summary of what Tradeshows, Conferences & Exhibitions to look forward to in the coming months.

DIY Solar Trackers

The system incorporates panels and micro-inverters and steel and bearings and a microcontroller with an LCD display, to control the daily motion of the array. And, I might add, a light sensor to sense night time and daytime, and an AC current sensor to measure the amps produced (by the array) and amps consumed by the controller.

ALTER EOLIA - Stackable Mini Wind Turbines

They can be installed on building roofs or stack at variable heights without a mast and without foundation. They are 100% removable, 100% silent, 100% recyclable and maintenance free.

Solar Energy Index Outperforms S&P in Q1 2015

Similar to the S&P 500 Index, the Solar Stock Index is a market cap weighted composite index.

Wind Energy Timeline - From Persian Windmills Crushing Grains to Vesta's Wind Turbines Churning out 8 MW of Output

The global wind power market continues to rapidly expand in 2015. It is expected that global wind energy production will surpass 65 gigawatts by 2020!
