SETTING SAIL WITH SOLAR

Cape Fear Solar Donates Solar System For Trans Atlantic Voyage

WILMINGTON, NC, June 3, 2011 – A solar powered vessel will set the sail this Sunday from Wilmington, NC on its journey to Portugal. Over the next 30 days, Greg Frucci will sail solo with his boat ‘Cuddy' completely depending on himself and nature. "The sun will supply the energy, the sea will provide fresh fish," Greg highlights. "I want to demonstrate that we all can be truly green and self-sustainable, if we make the choice to."

The solar system was donated by Wilmington-based solar system design and installation company, Cape Fear Solar System LLC, and should supply the energy needed for the Atlantic crossing. "Solar energy is a clean and reliable energy solution that works for a wide range of solar applications, it is not just for homes and commercial markets. We are excited about Mr. Frucci's trip and happy we could support his endeavor with solar. His project is another example of how we can obtain power in alternative ways" says John Donoghue, President of Cape Fear Solar. "We wish him safe sailing," Donoghue concludes.

The boat will sails approximately 3779 miles (3284 nautical miles), stopping for a short period of rest in Bermuda and the Azores Islands from Masonboro Yacht Club in Wilmington, NC to its final destination in Lisbon, Portugal. This unique adventure will be documented using cameras installed on various parts of the boat.

"Having solar on my boat, I feel safe and confident in producing the footage for the entire trip as well as powering all the electronics on the boat," Greg states. "The sun's energy will be captured with a solar panel system and the battery backup will supply the power for my communication devices," Greg explains.

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide - the ultimate solution for fast and easy installation of the rail-less RockIt racking system on composition shingle roofs. Smart Slide conforms to UL 441 and TAS 100 (A)-95 for wind and wind-driven rain, providing a super-strong watertight seal that is achieved through compression, in most cases without the need for additional sealant. The waterproofing sealant is embedded deep into the granules of the shingle, thanks to the integrated flexible foam layer that provides cushioning. This ensures a secure fit that conforms to any architectural-style shingle. With UltraGrip Technologyâ„¢, you can rely on a secure installation, as it absorbs the movement created by thermal expansion and contraction. The pre-installed sealing pads are compatible with all composition shingle roofs, making it the ideal choice, even in ambient temperatures as low as 5 degrees.
