Xantrex sponsored majority of top teams at the Solar Decathlon 2005

Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) sponsored three of the top five university teams that participated at the Solar Decathlon in Washington, DC from October 7th to 16th, 2005.

ARLINGTON, WA, October 19, 2005 - Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) sponsored three of the top five university teams that participated at the Solar Decathlon in Washington, DC from October 7th to 16th, 2005.

The Solar Decathlon 2005 involved 18 university teams from around the world that designed and built solar-powered homes to be judged in 10 different contests during the event. The categories included everything from architecture to energy balance, and Xantrex products helped a majority of teams reach peak performance levels for the competition.

Cornell University, California Polytechnic University, and the New York Institute of Technology were ranked second, third, and fifth overall, and they were all sponsored by Xantrex. Cornell was also ranked first in the Comfort Zone and Hot Water categories, and Cal Poly received top ranking in the Appliances and Lighting categories.

"We are proud of the teams that Xantrex sponsored, and we're pleased with the results of the Solar Decathlon," said Audey Korpus, Xantrex marketing manager for renewable energy. "These students used innovative, creative ideas, and increased awareness of renewable solar energy and the practical uses of Xantrex products."

Xantrex products were used by a total of 10 teams in the Solar Decathlon. Xantrex provided off-grid solar inverter/chargers, charge controllers and numerous accessories to the teams. These Xantrex products are designed to provide homes with power systems that are completely independent from the utility grid. The inverters efficiently convert direct current (DC) power generated from the solar panels into high-quality alternating current (AC) electricity for household use. The Xantrex inverters make it possible to power electrical and electronic appliances, lights and other devices normally plugged into a regular household wall outlet.

Some of the other teams sponsored by Xantrex include Carnegie Mellon University, Concordia University, Florida International University, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, and the Universidad de Puerto Rico.
