Endorsed and supported by IEA Bioenergy Task 40, the comprehensive conference offers key insights on strategic and market developments. It opens up opportunities to interact with regional biomass producers (wood pellets, wood chips and energy crops), international buyers, major utilities, investors, regulators and technologies suppliers.

ACORE (American Council On Renewable Energy), BCC (Biomass Coordinating Council) and CANBIO (Canadian Bioenergy Association) are some of the leading agencies supporting this event.

Commenting on the conference, Prof. Andre Faaij, Task Leader of IEA Bioenergy Task 40 said: "This conference focuses on one of the ''hot regions'' in the world from this perspective, the Southeast of the United States, which is recognized nationally and internationally as a region where biomass potentials are impressive and industrial and logistic capabilities are top notch." Prof. Faaij will be addressing on international trade flows of wood chips and pellets.

The conference opens with an authoritative executive panel, consisting of the Acting Undersecretary of Energy, EUBIA, EPA, Oglethorpe Power and Georgia Power. This panel will set the scene with regulatory and commercial drivers of biomass utilization.

The summit will explore the impact of the US energy policy [on biomass utilization] on export capacity that is aimed at the European co-firing demand market. Contemporary developments on sustainability criteria and certifications will be hotly debated at the summit.

Major utility players, including Essent, Ontario Power Generation and KEMA will share their experiences, in conversion and operation, of large scale co-firing of biomass. The complexities involved in funding programs (BCAP) and commercial financing tools are other vital areas that the summit will touch upon.


This summit will also highlight key developments in the Southeast's biomass and wood processing value chain from raw material sourcing, processing, pellets manufacturing to storage, logistics and power generation.

Besides, this summit will highlight the value proposition of energy crops for power generation, and also analyze latest trends in the shipping, logistics and handling (pretreatment) of biomass wood pellets. Ceres, Lewis Taylor Farms and other majors will be sharing their experiences on the above issues.

Suzano Renewable Energy and CANBIO will be highlighting critical issues in woody biomass production and export potential from Brazil and Canada respectively.
