Nexteer Donates a SunSteer™ System to Saginaw Intermediate School District's Hartley Outdoor Education Center

The ground breaking is targeted for June 1, 2013.

SAGINAW, Mich. – In celebration of Earth Day, Nexteer Automotive has partnered with other local organizations on a tracked solar photovoltaic installation at the Saginaw Intermediate School District's Hartley Outdoor Education Center. Nexteer will donate one SunSteer™ solar tracking system for an educational solar power installation at the center. Hemlock Semiconductor Group and Saginaw Valley State University are two of the local companies involved in the donation. The ground breaking is targeted for June 1, 2013.

"This is a great way to get students interested in renewable energy and support the Great Lakes Bay Region's efforts to lead the way in solar technology," said David Westphal, executive director for the SunSteer program. "The team at Nexteer prides itself on making a positive impact in the lives of children and this initiative is just one of the many ongoing programs, both here in Saginaw and globally, that Nexteer is proud to support."

SunSteer is manufactured at Nexteer's world headquarters in Saginaw, with more than 90 percent U.S. content and more than 50 percent of its content produced in Michigan. Nexteer's engineering and manufacturing expertise was applied to the design and development of the device, allowing for world-class reliability and performance in the renewable energy market.

SunSteer uses a precision built, high-efficiency ball screw/ball nut combination that provides operating efficiencies of up to 95 percent. This provides the ability to reliably move solar array loads with best-in-class energy consumption. Under normal operating conditions, SunSteer will accurately track the sun's position, while consuming less than $2.00 of energy per year and increasing power production by up to 40 percent over fixed solar installations.
