Gamesa Unveils G114-2.5 MW Turbine at AWEA

Newest model is remarkably reliable, delivers consistently high availability, ensures reduced O&M costs.

Gamesa Technology Corp. Inc., unveiled its newest evolution of one of the most successful and reliable wind turbine platforms on the market with the global launch of its G114-2.5MW turbine at the American Wind Energy Association's WINDPOWER 2013 conference and exhibition, which opened Sunday in Chicago, Ill.

The new turbine, designed for use in Class II winds, inherits and enhances most of the technologies, components, and subsystems of Gamesa's popular and celebrated 2.0MW turbine platform, which is widely tested and validated with more than 15,000MW installed in 28 countries around the world.

"The proven technology we have incorporated into the G114-2.5 MW model places it among the most reliable, efficient and cost-effective wind turbine technologies available today," says Gamesa North American Vice President of Sales and Marketing Gonzalo Onzain. "Gamesa is a technology-driven company. Our focus is making our strongest product line even better, so customers are confident they have the highest-quality, top-performing turbines on the market."

Gamesa's G114-2.5MW turbine is remarkably reliable while delivering consistently high availability, enhancing efficiencies, ensuring reduced operations and maintenance costs, and promising profitability in a highly competitive wind industry landscape.

The G114-2.5 MW model promises 29% more energy production than Gamesa's G97-2.0 MW turbine while lowering the cost of energy 10%. The new turbine incorporates a new 2.5MW generator and converter system and optimizes costs by inheriting the robust technologies deployed in the Gamesa 2.0MW platform.

As with other models, the G114-2.5MW features multiple tower heights --- 93m and 120m with other heights under development --- but also features a new 56m reinforced blade that is designed specifically for Class II sites

Gamesa, a global leader in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of wind turbine generators and the turnkey development and sale of wind farms, chose AWEA's 2013 WINDPOWER conference and exhibition to unveil the new turbine to demonstrate its commitment to the U.S. wind market, which is poised for growth. Gamesa's new turbine suits customers who are pursuing new development opportunities in North America. The G114-2.5MW turbine will be ready for delivery in 2014.
