Cape Fear Solar Completes Two Hundred-Panel Solar System in Brunswick County

WILMINGTON, NC, June 20, 2013 – Cape Fear Solar Systems, Southeastern North Carolina's leader in solar systems design and installation, has commissioned a 64.3-kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar electric system at a bio-tech facility in Brunswick County, NC.


Cape Fear Solar Systems designed, engineered and constructed the solar photovoltaic system consisting of two hundred and one solar panels that will generate more than 98,603 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per year.

The solar system's output will be used to power the refrigeration equipment in the various areas of the bio-tech plant, including processing, packaging and the distribution sections.

Using a holistic engineering approach, this grid-tied system was designed using a ballasted roof mounting structure to avoid roof penetrations, while still meeting hurricane wind codes, and to make it invisible from the ground. The overall appearance compliments the building's architecture and minimizes the visual impact on the natural surroundings.

Sizing specifications included offsetting maximum energy usage. This was achieved by using the most efficient solar panels on Earth, SunPower 327-watt modules, resulting in maximum power output per the available roof space. Analyzing the panels output and selecting the most suitable inverters has resulted in a powerful rooftop array with incredibly high yearly energy yield.
