Sustainable Innovations (SI) achieves major milestones in its expandable modular renewables-to-hydrogen architecture for power-to-gas market.

Sustainable Innovations, LLC of East Hartford, Connecticut (USA) announced the achievement of key development milestones for its hydrogen separation and compression systems. Sustainable Innovations' unique Expandable Modular cell and system Architecture (EMA) readily adapts to meet the projected needs of hydrogen systems for megawatt scale renewable power-to-gas and fueling applications. Power-to-gas strategies reduce reliance on European imports of natural gas while alleviating CO2 emissions.
Using its unique EMA format, SI successfully achieved key milestones under a NASA-sponsored technology development effort to compress hydrogen from a low pressure source. In a related NASA application, SI's EMA format hardware is conserving and purifying helium, a valuable and scarce commodity, used to purge hydrogen fueling lines after test firing of rocket engines.
These initial applications of SI's technology; power-to-gas energy storage and hydrogen separation/compression, are examples of Sustainable Innovations' EMA platform technology business strategy. SI is commercializing the EMA platform for important energy and industrial uses, varying chemistry, pressure and scale as required for each application.
The EMA is also being incorporated into a highly-efficient flow battery for large-scale integration of renewable energy into the power grid. Furthermore, SI is leveraging its EMA to facilitate electrochemical conversion of CO2 into valuable chemicals and fuels, providing a sustainable solution to the global climate issue, and access into markets for energy and industrial process feedstocks reaching hundreds of billions of dollars.

Achievement of this milestone is validation of our concept for scalability to MW-sized hydrogen systems, enabling both high output and high pressure at the same time."
