Arnold Magnetic Technologies Introduces BESThin Materials for Improved Energy Storage

The BESThin line, which includes nickel, aluminum and copper, enables thinner substrates to be used in battery and energy storage technologies.

Marengo, Ill. (Dec. 4, 2014) – Arnold Magnetic Technologies introduced today its BESThin line of thin and ultra-thin metals for efficient battery and energy storage designs.

The BESThin line, which includes nickel, aluminum and copper, enables thinner substrates to be used in battery and energy storage technologies. As the push for new battery performance materials increases, titanium and stainless steel are also being considered. These thin substrates improve storage capacity by allowing for greater energy density in a smaller system.

In addition to thinness, Arnold is able to improve material performance through fine-tuned grain size and grain structure and uniform surface roughness. These optimizations allow for precise deposition of electrode materials onto the substrate.

Advances in battery technology hold particular promise for the automotive and transportation industries. Smaller, lighter, and more power dense designs will enable vehicles to meet stricter energy standards. Other applications that benefit from thin metal substrates include mobile devices, advanced fuel cells, and photovoltaic (PV) solar cells.

"Thin and ultra-thin metals play an important role in today's battery and supercapacitor technologies," said Ted Baker, General Manager of Arnold's Precision Thin Metals (PTM) division. "We're working with customers to overcome the challenges and limitations of each technology, in order to achieve more efficient electrification of their machines."

Arnold is an active member of The New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium (NY-BEST™) which is an industry-led, private-public coalition of corporate, entrepreneurial, academic and government partners focused on developing world-class battery and energy storage solutions in New York State.

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide - the ultimate solution for fast and easy installation of the rail-less RockIt racking system on composition shingle roofs. Smart Slide conforms to UL 441 and TAS 100 (A)-95 for wind and wind-driven rain, providing a super-strong watertight seal that is achieved through compression, in most cases without the need for additional sealant. The waterproofing sealant is embedded deep into the granules of the shingle, thanks to the integrated flexible foam layer that provides cushioning. This ensures a secure fit that conforms to any architectural-style shingle. With UltraGrip Technology™, you can rely on a secure installation, as it absorbs the movement created by thermal expansion and contraction. The pre-installed sealing pads are compatible with all composition shingle roofs, making it the ideal choice, even in ambient temperatures as low as 5 degrees.
