Solar power reduces pollution by replacing electricity that comes from coal fired power plants or gas and other fossil fuels with electricity that comes from the sun. In addition to lowering their carbon footprints, Maryland homeowners who run their homes on solar power also enjoy lower utility bills than homeowners without solar power and are virtually unaffected by never-ending rate hikes from BGE, Pepco and other utility providers. Some solar-powered homeowners actually pay nothing for their electricity.

Maryland is one of the best states for solar energy currently employing over 4,300 people in the industry. Solar Energy World, a locally owned and operated Solar System Design and Installation Company that has doubled in size since its founding in 2009 and runs its facility on solar power is hosting a Free Solar 101 Workshop in honor of Earth Day for homeowners from the Baltimore/DC metro area on Saturday April 23, 2016 from 10:30 AM -1:00 PM at their headquarters in Elkridge, Maryland (near BWI airport).

The event features introductory remarks by Trisha Sheehan, Regional Field Manager for MOMS Clean Air Force of Maryland and Margo Duesterhaus, Steering Committee Chair for Transition Howard County. During the classroom portion of the Solar Workshop, event attendees will learn about solar grants, financial incentives and tax breaks; how a solar system generates income for homeowners; and how to calculate the return on investment from the purchase or lease of a solar system. During the tour of Solar Energy Worlds Solar System, a certified solar analyst will explain how the solar energy system produces electricity and how a similar, scaled down system can work for a home.

In addition, participants will be treated to a free continental breakfast of pastries, coffee and fruit and will receive a free information package about home solar that they can take home with them. Space is limited so registration is required by April 15th for free admission. For more information go to www.SunnyEarthDay.com or call 888-485-1909.
