TÜV SÜD successfully completes certification of Gemini wind farm in the Netherlands

Within the scope of certification for the Gemini 600 MW offshore wind farm, TÜV SÜD has completed the design assessment for the wind farm and the certification of two sub-stations. Gemini is located in the Dutch exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the North Sea, around 85 kilometres off the coast.

TÜV SÜD had already completed the review of the design documentation of the wind farm, which covered the support structures of the wind turbines – a total of 150 monopiles including the connection structures and steel towers. On behalf of Gemini, the international service provider has now also completed the certification of the two offshore sub-stations. This Certification comprised review of the design documentation and the geotechnical report as well as the review of the sub-stations' support structures and topside platforms.

The multidisciplinary team of TÜV SÜD included specialists from many different areas of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH who contributed their expertise and experience to the project. "We are very happy that Gemini placed these contracts with TÜV SÜD", says Ulrich Knopf, project manager at the Offshore Wind Energy department of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH. "For us, this fact also confirms our position as one of the world's leading certification companies for onshore and offshore wind turbines and wind farms." According to the TÜV SÜD expert, the excellent cooperation between the designer, the general contractor and Gemini was one of the essential requirements for the successful realisation of the two contracts.

TÜV SÜD looks back on a long and successful track record in the certification of both onshore and offshore wind farms, wind turbines and their components. The international service provider also supports planners, contractors, investors and owners in risk analyses, occupational health and safety concepts and quality assurance during construction. Other core fields of activity include quality assurance in component manufacturing and periodic testing and inspection throughout the service life of the wind turbines.
