For extra long periods of operational time, diesel power generators are used as battery extenders As Michael Roed explains about a command vehicle that has to be electrically running for up to 3 days: "We can, by a diesel generator, charge two 100Ah, 12 volt lithium ion batteries through combi inverter/chargers in under one hour, and that while running with computers and internet on the system." This opens up for an entire new world where lithium ion batteries can be used for cheaper, long lasting and environmentally friendly power solutions, where the use of fuel is reduced drastically.
