Continental Control Systems announced today that its WattNode® Revenue Modbus® electric energy and power meter has been certified to the requirements of the American National Standard for Electric Meters — Code for Electricity Metering: ANSI C12.1-2008. The meter is the first of Continental Control Systems' ANSI C12.1-compliant WattNode Revenue line to complete the certification process through a nationally recognized testing laboratory (NRTL).

The ANSI C12.1-2008 standard establishes acceptable performance criteria and in-service performance levels for meters used in revenue metering. Certification of the WattNode Revenue Modbus was carried out by MET Laboratories, Inc., an independent electrical testing and certification lab recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Samples of the meter were subjected to months of rigorous testing, including tests for accuracy and stability, performance over temperature and humidity, voltage surge and interruption, vibration, and radio frequency interference.

"Government and regulatory bodies often reference the ANSI C12.1 standard when approving meters for use within their jurisdictions," said Cynthia A. Boyd, director of sales for Continental Control Systems. "So completing the certification process has opened the door for our WattNode Revenue Modbus in a wide range of revenue metering applications where certified accuracies are required by the state, such as tenant submetering and solar- and wind-sourced energy production metering. With the increasing demand for revenue-grade accuracy at a low price point, the Revenue Modbus is perfectly positioned to become the meter of choice in these applications."

In addition to the Modbus communications protocol, the compact and cost-effective WattNode Revenue meter line supports BACnet®, LonTalk®, or a pulse output. Designed for 120/208/240 Vac and 277/480 Vac applications, each WattNode Revenue meter is calibrated using NIST-traceable equipment following the procedures specified by ANSI C12.1-2008 standards, and is supplied with a certificate of calibration. In addition to revenue-grade, bidirectional energy (kWh) metering, the networkable WattNode Revenue meters provide dozens of additional measurements: bidirectional power, demand, peak demand, reactive power, voltage, current, power factor, and line frequency.

The ANSI C12.1-2008-certified WattNode Revenue Modbus, in addition to the entire line of WattNode meters and high-accuracy current transformers, will be on display at Solar Power International 2013, Oct. 21-24 in Chicago.
