Robin talks bats at Scottish Renewables Annual Conference

Natural Power's Senior Environmental Consultant, Robin Cox, will present ‘Optimising revenue under bat curtailment conditions' as part of the poster exhibition at the forthcoming Scottish Renewables Annual Conference in Edinburgh on 21st and 22nd March.

Robin said: "The impacts of operational wind turbines to bats in the UK are a growing concern to statutory and non-statutory consultees following the release of a recent study conducted by Exeter University. Increasingly, project consent conditions include curtailment of operational wind turbines through blanket cut-in speed adjustments. While effective at reducing bat mortality, blanket curtailment may be overly precautionary and result in considerable energy loss, and consequential revenue loss, where an optimised curtailment strategy that targets periods when bats are likely to be most at risk of mortality could be highly effective."

His presentation will explore the financial implications of blanket curtailment on lost revenue versus the cost savings that smart curtailment strategies can achieve through the application of energy yield analysis.

Robins poster will be displayed throughout the two day conference in the networking area. The poster exhibition is designed to offer an interactive way for organisations to showcase and communicate products, services and projects.
Scottish Renewables Annual Conference will see speakers debate Scotlands new draft energy strategy, carbon targets, changes to the FiT and RHI, and the next CfD round, as well as Britains exit from the EU and how this will define the next chapter in Scotlands energy evolution.
