San Diego's Solar Changes Forever this Year
San Diegans Who Delay Going Solar Will Miss 20 Years of Grandfathering Protections
Homeowners considering going solar in the San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) utility territory are being told to sign up over the next two months to receive the benefits of current Net Energy Metering. Industry experts and the utility project that the current billing arrangement will expire between March and June of 2016.
To receive grandfathering protections for 20 years under the current attractive program, a solar energy system must be installed and receive permission to operate from the utility before the net energy metering cap for solar in the SDG&E territory is hit. Local solar provider, Sullivan Solar Power, is advising property owners who are thinking of going solar to sign a contract in the first couple months of 2016 to ensure they do not miss the sweet solar deal.
"Sullivan Solar Power is installing projects early for anyone that signs up in the month of January. Our firm is committed to making sure anyone who wants to go solar wont miss their opportunity," said Daniel Sullivan, founder and president of Sullivan Solar Power.
A proposed decision came out a few weeks ago from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) on the changes. The CPUC is set to announce the final version of the new billing arrangement on January 28, 2016.
