ONSET COMPUTER CORPORATION LAUNCHES K-12 ENERGY CONTEST

New HOBO Energy Challenge promotes hands-on science learning and energy awareness with free equipment loans to teachers and students

BOURNE, MA, September 22, 2004 - Onset Computer Corporation, the leader in reliable, battery-powered data loggers, today announced a new K - 12 energy contest for teachers and students through its iScienceProject program. Aimed at putting professional energy monitoring equipment in the hands of teachers and students for free, the HOBO® Energy Challenge contest will promote energy awareness within schools while offering students of all ages a fun, hands-on science learning experience with HOBO data loggers.

The mission of the Energy Challenge is simple: use data loggers to document energy usage schools. Participating classrooms will receive a free HOBO Loaner Package that includes everything needed to start investigating energy usage: a HOBO data logger, software, and energy-saving contest activities. Classrooms that investigate and document energy usage in at least one area of their school win a complete HOBO data logger system ($200 value). An entire classroom set of HOBO data loggers ($1000 value) will be awarded to elementary, middle- and high-school classrooms that make the greatest effort to investigate energy usage.

"Since we began our K-12 initiative two years ago, Onset has loaned more than half a million dollars worth of data loggers to schools in the United States," says Mark McSherry, president of Onset. "The inspiration for the HOBO Energy

Challenge came from a classroom at the Burrel Union Elementary School in
California. Students there used HOBOs to investigate school energy usage and ultimately helped the school reduce its electric bill by roughly 20%. In addition to promoting energy conservation, the Energy Challenge is a great way for kids to get excited about science while preparing them for some of the technology tools they may use in the future."

Dynapower - MAXIMIZE PRODUCTION AND REVENUES WITH SOLAR PLUS STORAGE

The addition of energy storage to an existing or new utility-scale PV installation allows system owners and operators the opportunity to capture additional revenues. Traditional storage plus solar applications have involved the coupling of independent storage and PV inverters at an AC bus or the use of multi-input hybrid inverters. An alternative approach - coupling energy storage to PV arrays with a DC-to-DC converter - can help maximize production and profits for existing and new utility-scale installations. DC-Coupled Utility-Scale Solar Plus Storage leads to higher round-trip efficiencies and lower cost of integration with existing PV arrays and at the same time, opens up new revenue streams not possible with traditional AC-coupled storage, including clipping recapture and low voltage harvesting, while being eligible for valuable tax incentives.
