Xantrex announces sponsorship of seven collegiate teams for the 2007 Solar Decathlon

Xantrex Technology Inc. today announced its participation as a team sponsor of seven of the 20 teams participating in the 2007 Solar Decathlon, hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy.

VANCOUVER, B.C., October 11, 2007 - Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) today announced its participation as a team sponsor of seven of the 20 teams participating in the 2007 Solar Decathlon, hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy. Xantrex has provided each team with its new XW System, an off-grid renewable energy power solution for use in the renewable energy homes being designed and constructed for the competition.

The third annual Solar Decathlon is an international collegiate competition focused on designing, building and operating highly energy-efficient, grid-independent houses that incorporate cutting-edge solar energy solutions. The houses are designed to reduce energy consumption, while offering all of the comforts of a modern home. The U.S. Department of Energy is the host of this third Decathlon, which is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors to the National Mall in Washington, D.C., from October 12 - 20, 2007.

The Xantrex XW System is the first fully-integrated, battery-based system designed for residential and commercial solar and backup power applications. Targeting installations requiring peak power of up to 18 kW, the Xantrex XW System is a renewable energy power system that can be customized to suit almost any solar or backup power application - grid-tie, off-grid remote or village power, as well as home backup power.

"The Solar Decathlon is an excellent forum demonstrating the capabilities of our XW System, while providing hands-on application experience for these students using the latest solar technology," said John Wallace, Xantrex CEO. "The design efficiencies built into the Xantrex XW system, coupled with its ease of installation and minimized component count, will enable all of our teams to deliver innovative and efficient structures for the competition."

The teams selected for the competition will be awarded $100,000 over two years, to support the Solar Decathlon's research goal of reducing the cost of solar-powered homes and advancing solar technology.
