Power Plus Communications (PPC), a leading provider of broadband powerline communications for smart metering and smart grids, has been named by Cleantech Connect (CTC) as one of the fastest growing cleantech companies in Europe in 2010. The Cleantech Connect awards are organised by investment bank GP Bullhound with premium sponsor, Schroders Private Banking. PPC made the top 50 for the second consecutive year and this year was placed in the top 20 due to its 52 per cent growth. The awards list, which was judged by a panel of leading industry experts, comprises some of the most prestigious names in the industry.

"We are honoured and excited to be recognised, once again, as one of the leading cleantech companies in Europe," said Eugen Mayer, Chief Operating Officer at PPC. "This recognition in Cleantech Connect's top 50 for 2010 reflects our continued commitment to the development of cleantech, and of our success to date."

PPC innovations in broadband powerline technology have fuelled the company's growth, earning it a place amongst Europe's leading lights in driving development of smart metering and smart grids. PPC's solution converts existing powerlines into real-time communications platforms to create smart energy networks. These networks are at the core of carbon-saving smart metering and intelligent production programmes, as well as load and storage management. These systems will help provide the information needed to enable providers and end users to make informed decisions on energy efficiency, promote the use of renewable energy, and electric vehicles.

Currently being trialled across Europe, PPC's smart grid communication technology is powering the smart metering network in Germany's first smart city, Mannheim, enabling two-way communication between energy providers and consumers. PPC's technology provides 90 per cent communications coverage of Mannheim, which is testament to PPC's ongoing success and innovation.

"This is a really exciting time for the cleantech industry across Europe," continues Mayer. "The smart grid is at the forefront of the energy revolution and our technology sits at the heart of the smart grid. Our contribution to the development of the industry and our specialisation in smart metering communications has been key to positioning us as one of Europe's fastest-growing cleantech companies"

Representatives of PPC were invited to attend the annual CTC awards ceremony in recognition of the achievement, which was held on the evening of November 17th at Sketch, in London.
