Baker Electric Solar received the honor for the 1.5-megawatt (MW) system it installed for the Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ-9) Complex at the U.S. Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) Twentynine Palms, Calif. Each year a single SunPower commercial solar project is selected to receive the "Intelegant Award for Excellence." The award is based on the overall value -- which in this case was for both the military and taxpayer, in aesthetics, quality of the design and installation, as well as the project owner's satisfaction. BES also received a PV Project of Distinction Award from SEIA and SEPA for the same project.

For the BEQ-9 project, the challenge was to install the photovoltaic (PV) system without placing arrays on the BEQ rooftops. The military base project features 4,680 SunPower® E19/318 Solar Panels. The four PV installations generate on-site solar electric power reducing energy costs for the military base while providing premium shading for the two parking areas, amphitheater and recreational park.
