PVinsights:Polysilicon price drops seriously in Dec since price outside China follows China to crash
Chinese polysilicon sellers continue to dump their products aggressively to secure the order as the polysilicon procurement slow down. Therefore, polysilicon manufacturers in China now are facing serious price correction.
Overall module price stays downtrend this week. In US and EU, the western holyday and the winter drag down the module demand. In addition, some US module makers dump low efficiency modules with low price to digest their inventory level and meet their financial goals. As a result, module price in EU and US falls. On the contrary, the China domestic demand remains solid at this moment since the 2014 FIT programs is postponed to January 2015. With the stable demand, China module price stands still. In Japan, as the solar power systems seem to be able to come online again in 1Q15, solar module demand rebound is expected to present itself in the near future. The appreciation of the JPY against the USD this week eases the price pressure as well. Consequently, module price in Japan can sustain flat this week. In sum, while module price is stable in China and Japan, the significant slump of the price in US and the weak demand in EU press down global module price.
Overall cell price declines this week. The seasonal factors in EU and US diminish the cell demand and make the cell price go down. Thought China demand is stable, the cell order visibility in January 2015 is unpleasant. To secure the orders, some cell players offer low prices. As a result, worldwide cell price continues price downtrend this week.
Overall wafer price steps down this week due to the decreasing prices of polysilicon price and downstream components. With the expectation that wafer demand will deteriorate and the order visibility is unclear in January 2015, wafer price now bears great price cut pressure. Mono wafer price drops more than multi one because mono wafer cannot benefit from the stable China demand and the demand in EU and US melts down due to the slow season in December.
