Invisibility cloaking may be a long way from reality, but the principle could help improve the performance of solar cells in the near term. In a series of simulations, researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology have demonstrated how cloaks made of metamaterials or freeform surfaces could eliminate shadows cast by energy-harvesting components onto the active surfaces of solar cells. Contact fingers, which extract electric current, cover up to one-tenth of the surface area of a solar cell. By guiding light around these features, more of the sun's energy could be captured by the solar cell. "Our model experiments have shown that the cloak layer makes the contact fingers nearly completely invisible," said doctoral student Martin Schumann. Cont'd...
Levelised cost of electricity analysis for H2 2015 shows onshore wind to be fully competitive against gas and coal in some parts of the world, while solar is closing the gap
The launch of this service is a step-change for the renewables operations and maintenance (O&M) sector, both onshore and offshore.
Unique, first-to-market GreenBoost service safeguards against revenue fluctuations as a result of both wind volatility and turbine downtime
"SunPower's remote operations control center is designed to optimize energy production at our solar power plants, allowing utilities and power plant owners to better manage their energy"
Renesola today announced that it has sold its 16.5 MW Membury utility scale project in the United Kingdom to Foresight Solar Fund Limited ("FSFL").
The full three phase project involves developing a 350 MW AC PV solar generating facility covering approximately 2000 acres of formerly underdeveloped grazing and ag lands over multiple project sites in an unincorporated portion of eastern Kern county.
With this acquisition, the global leader in the renewable energy industry strengthens its international portfolio with a total of more than 980 MW under management in Asia, America and Europe.
Germany's top place in the ranking is not surprising given its Energiewende focus to transition away from fossil fuels & its declared war on coal.
A total of about 2,125 MW of molten salt energy storage projects are in pipeline which are scheduled for deployment by 2018.
Panasonic debuts high-powered photovoltaic module HIT® N330 for UK and European markets, sets new module efficiency record
Panasonic launches newest addition to HIT® module line and confirms world record efficiency on module prototype.
All-in-one systems designed for longevity in the field save installers time, offer competitive advantage
Solar Farm development continues to thrive and grow in many solar friendly U.S. states. Large scale solar farm project developers like Innovative Solar Systems, LLC (ISS) are lessening the carbon footprint of this country as increasingly more fossil fuel power plants are being shut down due to EPA regulations regarding emissions on coal fired facilities.
