PVinsights: China Demand Recovery Decelerates Solar Slump

Global solar panel prices continue to drop this week, extending the longest losses since 2017, but the rate of decline has slowed significantly from previous weeks. The demand in China has restored momentum in April. However, the demand recovery would still not be strong enough to reverse the downtrend of prices, but should help to limit the scope of decline. Meanwhile, although the demand in China has improved, the demand in rest of the major solar markets still appears to be lackluster. In EU and the US, solar panel prices were slashed sharply since 4Q16 and recently major module makers have ceased aggressive pricing. In Japan and India, fierce competition in these regions in efforts to win PV projects in 2H17 continue to drive solar panel prices lower.

48V Mild Hybrid: Greater Ambitions Now

At the excellent Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Conference here in Sindlefingen, Germany, 48V mild hybrids are rightly a strong focus. The consensus is that we are quickly moving beyond the opening shots that can reduce carbon dioxide by up to 14%. These tend to involve belt starter generator BSG, no electric drive modes, PO/1 positioning on engine, 480Wh 48V battery and 12 kV supplied. This was described as little more than an upgraded stop-start albeit with cold start, fast start, quietness and fuel economy.

Contradiction in Key Markets Will Lead to Sluggish Growth of Global Photovoltaics (PV) Demand, IHS Markit Says

An anticipated decline in the worlds three largest markets - China, United States and Japan - will shape the outlook for PV demand through this year. IHS Markit expects these markets to shrink by a combined 9 GW (16 percent year-over-year) in 2017. Similar to previous years, global demand depends highly on policy evolution in China.

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide

Introducing RockIt Smart Slide - the ultimate solution for fast and easy installation of the rail-less RockIt racking system on composition shingle roofs. Smart Slide conforms to UL 441 and TAS 100 (A)-95 for wind and wind-driven rain, providing a super-strong watertight seal that is achieved through compression, in most cases without the need for additional sealant. The waterproofing sealant is embedded deep into the granules of the shingle, thanks to the integrated flexible foam layer that provides cushioning. This ensures a secure fit that conforms to any architectural-style shingle. With UltraGrip Technology™, you can rely on a secure installation, as it absorbs the movement created by thermal expansion and contraction. The pre-installed sealing pads are compatible with all composition shingle roofs, making it the ideal choice, even in ambient temperatures as low as 5 degrees.
