INTERSOLAR and looking ahead to 2020 - Q&A with Rolls Battery

Q&A with | Rolls Battery

Tell us about your company.

Rolls Battery has been manufacturing premium traditional flooded and sealed deep cycle lead-acid batteries in Canada since 1959.  Rolls batteries are known to deliver reliable, long-lasting energy storage and are available in a wide range of voltage and capacity options to meet the needs of small to large-scale residential, commercial and micro-grid applications.

Your company will be exhibiting at Intersolar North America, what is it that makes this an important event for your company?

Intersolar North America continues to offer significant value, drawing a large audience. This event offers an opportunity to meet face-to-face with current and potential customers and industry professionals seeking product information as well as technical support. In doing so, we are often able to discuss and qualify new sales opportunities and vet leads to our experienced distributors in their region.

What makes your booth a must visit for Intersolar Attendees?

This year we will once again be exhibiting in partnership with Stationary Power Systems, one of the largest Rolls Battery distributors in the United States. Booth staff will offer attendees product information and guidance relating to system design & sizing as well as pricing and availability for the full range of Rolls flooded, AGM, GEL and new LFP lithium models launched in late 2019.

Stop by our booth to view the new 24V & 48V LFP LiFePO4 models added to our product lineup.  With built-in battery management system (BMS) and plug-n-play connectivity, these models are sure to be a popular choice for seasoned Installers as we broaden our product range to meet the energy storage needs in a variety of residential & commercial applications.

Intersolar has many educational sessions, forums & Demo’s, is your company involved in any of them this year?

This year, Rolls will be participating in the panel discussion - "Status and Prospects for Energy Storage by Non - Lithium-Ion Batteries" scheduled on Wednesday, Feb 5 from 1:00pm-2:15pm.  In this session we will discuss the continued selection and key benefits of traditional flooded & sealed deep cycle lead-acid batteries for energy storage in off-grid & backup applications.

Rolls will also be participating as a product sponsor at the first annual Solar Games where competing teams will build a residential rooftop solar + storage system.

When you get a chance to walk the exhibit hall floor yourself, what is it you will be most interested to see?  Any educational sessions, pavilions etc. you plan on attending?

Walking the show is often as beneficial as meeting with attendees in our booth. Touring the exhibit hall provides an opportunity to learn more about the products and services offered by other manufacturers and service providers, current trends as well as a look at competitor's product lines. From a marketing perspective, touring the show often allows us to gauge what approach is working well to gain interest from industry professionals and customers.

Energy Storage is undertaking rapid advancements and growth.  Give us an idea on how your company and product is being utilized now for energy storage.

Rolls flooded and sealed deep cycle batteries have been used for energy storage in Renewable Energy applications for decades.  Since the inception of off-grid applications, deep cycle lead-acid batteries have been repurposed from various industries (ex: industrial equipment, marine and rail).  We continue to see increased demand for these models for use in residential systems as well as larger commercial and micro-grid installations as they offer a low cost/kwh when comparing to alternative complex battery technologies requiring higher manufacturing costs.  Our batteries are used in village electrification projects as well as diesel generator replacement in schools, hospitals as well as micro-grid systems powering small communities in many remote sites and developing countries.

What are you projecting for 2020?  Do you see more growth or turmoil ahead for solar and the economy?

Despite political setbacks in some regions, we anticipate continued growth as our products are distributed to various markets worldwide.

Do you think the solar industry is in a good position to grow through what may be a bumpy next few years?

A growing number of well-organized associations and groups are working diligently in North America to educate and promote solar by showcasing the key benefits and savings.  In addition, this growing industry has one of the highest levels of new job opportunities, covering a variety of positions, which we feel will continue to draw attention and have a positive impact.
