ONSET COMPUTER CORPORATION EXPANDS MEASUREMENT OPTIONS FOR HOBO WEATHER STATIONS

The new Adapter makes it fast and simple to connect tipping-bucket rain gauges, flow meters, anemometers, power meters, gas meters, and other pulse-output sensors to HOBO Weather Station products.

BOURNE, MA, July 19, 2004 - Onset Computer Corporation, the leader in reliable, battery-powered data loggers and weather stations, today announced that it has expanded its line of HOBO® Weather Station Sensor Adapters with a new Pulse Input Adapter. The new Adapter makes it fast and simple to connect tipping-bucket rain gauges, flow meters, anemometers, power meters, gas meters, and other pulse-output sensors to HOBO Weather Station products. This includes the 15-channel HOBO Weather Station and 4-channel HOBO Micro Station.

"The new Pulse Adapter extends the flexibility of HOBO Weather Stations, giving users more measurement options beyond our suite of plug-in Smart Sensors," says Paul Gannett, product marketing manager for Onset. "This means users can connect their specialized sensors, while still benefiting from the easy configuration, research-grade performance, and cost-effectiveness HOBO Weather Stations are known for."

The Pulse Input Adapter operates by counting the number of pulses per data logging interval at rates of up to 120 pulses per second. Two versions are available: one that is compatible with sensors with contact closures such as rain gauges, and one that is compatible with electronic switch closures such as open-collector outputs. Each version features a 6-meter cable with a simple 2-wire connection, which makes it easy to connect sensors to HOBO Weather Stations.

About the HOBO Weather Station
Onset's award-winning HOBO Weather Station can be user-configured with any
combination of up to 15 channels of sensor inputs and can log up to 340,000 12-bit measurements. The system can be equipped to measure the user's choice of
temperature, relative humidity, dew point, rainfall, soil moisture, photosynthetic light (PAR), solar radiation, wind speed and direction, and barometric pressure. HOBO Weather Station smart sensors simply plug into the data logger and are automatically recognized without complicated wiring, programming or calibration requirements. Powered for one year using only four AA batteries, the HOBO Weather Station eliminates the need for solar panels and large battery packs. Data collected by the station can be offloaded while logging or when data recording has stopped, and can be offloaded in the field with HandCar' software for Palm' handhelds. BoxCar® Pro software can be used to display and analyze data acquired by the HOBO Weather Station, and creates files that are easy to export for use in the spreadsheets or database applications. Onset's compact, four-channel HOBO Micro Station has similar advantages and accepts the same range of smart sensors.

Pricing and Availability
The Pulse Input Adapter is currently available from Onset, and is priced at $65.
