Geologic Heating Systems Inc - HVAC Systems That Are Powered by the Planet

Geologic Heating Systems Inc Offers Patented Technologies for Petroleum-free Heating and Cooling including "compact" geothermal for Urban use.

As energy prices continue to trend upwards at unprecedented rates, many builders and homeowners are exploring new options to help them deal with high heating costs. With increasing volatility in the Middle East, it seems inevitable that there will be more instability in the petroleum marketplace. "Essentially, we are seeing an increase in world demand and a levelling off of supply. The number of meaningful oil and gas discoveries are in decline," says Peter Baker, majority owner of GeoLogic Heating Systems Inc. "People see the news and watch their heating bills go up every year. Naturally, they want to save money and reduce their energy use. Our goal is to help them do exactly that."

As well as offering conventional geothermal products, Geologic is also installing another patented geo-exchange technology that can be installed is city sized lots and which also eliminates the need for gas or oil to heat a building. They are the only company in Eastern Ontario that offers both conventional and this "compact" variety of geothermal system. Sales of the product have increased by 400% since 2000.

Compared to a conventional gas or oil heating system, a geothermal system will typically cut heating bills by an average of 50%, and in some cases may actually reduce bills as much as 70%. Another advantage is that the systems life expectancy is 25 years, twice that of a new furnace. Mr Baker has 26 years of experience in the heating and cooling business in and around the Ottawa valley, and he has never seen such explosive sales growth in any other product. The systems are receiving much international press also. In the latest US geothermal trade journal called Geo-Outlook, this Canadian-made technology is featured and endorsed by the University of Oklahoma's IGSHP test laboratory (North Americas leading authoritative organization in the ground source heat pump industry) as "the worlds number one heating and cooling system." There has been lots of local interest too, and just last week the company was featured on CTV's "Tech Now" series, where a camera crew reported on a project the company was completing west of Ottawa.(Canada)

According to Mr Baker, today's customers see this technology as a solution to the double-digit increases being seen in gas and oil products. "This is definitely a product whose time has come," said Baker, adding, "In a typical new home of 1900 square feet, a geothermal system will have an average monthly operating cost of $100 dollars per month heating and cooling the home. And whenever it is on, it generates domestic hot water. That offers a further savings of about 50% off the cost of heating the homes hot water. In addition to greatly reduced heating costs, geothermal systems are well-known for offering unbeatable comfort and temperature stability throughout the home. And because there's no fossil fuels or combustion involved with the heating process, there is no requirement for a chimney, gas piping, or fuel storage tanks at the residence. It's an extremely "green" system." For every hour of use, a geothermal system produces one pound less of CO2 than a conventional furnace system. The cumulative annual green house gas reduction realized by installing one of these systems is like removing two cars from the road.

GeoLogic systems typically cost 2 to 3 times as much as conventional furnace/AC but the systems will usually save $100,000 or more over the lifespan of the equipment."The extra initial cost is typically recouped in four to seven years. You would be spending that anyway over the next few years on energy bills, so you are better off to invest in the geothermal system, eliminate your gas or oil bill and increase the home's equity and sale value," he said. "To help customers understand exactly what the cost advantages are, we offer a free internet-based analysis of your residence. Using a computer program we can determine very accurately what consumers will save if they were to switch to one of these systems. It never fails to make an impact on people when they see the accumulated savings these systems offer. Plus, customers will no longer be susceptible to the wild petroleum price increases being driven by market forces beyond our borders."
Mr Baker went on to explain that the systems only requirement is a relatively small amount of electricity and that for every 1000 watts of electricity that is put into running the system, it generates an average of 3500 watts of heating energy. And since that harvested energy is a totally renewable resource, the systems are considered the most environmentally friendly available.

As well as geothermal products, Geologic also specializes is radiant floor heating, ductless HVAC systems and hybrid systems, which can incorporate combinations of other energy saving technologies You are invited to visit the web site at www.GreenChoice.ca for more information about their products.
