Farmers in UK welcome Biofuel Plans
On December 6, 2006, farmers welcomed increased commitment of the govt. for promoting renewable energy in its Pre-Budget Statement.
Gordon Brown – Chancellor, National Farmers' Union (NFU) – announced on 6 December 2006 that he’d be seeking advise on extending 40p excise rebate on biogas and 20p per liter rebate in fuel excise to the so-called “2nd Generation” biofuels. Thereby, confirming the view of the union that bio-energy will play a real & growing role in the country’s future.
NFU announced that it would go on to work with the retailers and manufacturers for ensuring an amplified role for biofuels. The union also welcomed the measures designed for boosting the construction of carbon neutral homes and encouraging green investment, as they could spur biomass powered heat & power plants.
