Statement by American Council On Renewable Energy President Michael Eckhart on Google's new push into renewable energy

The American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) applauds the management at Google for making an historic commitment to fast-track technology development in renewable energy.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 27 -This statement was issued by Michael Eckhart, President, American Council On Renewable Energy, about Google's announcement today of a new strategic initiative to develop electricity from renewable energy sources that will be cheaper, within years, than electricity produced from coal.

"The American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) applauds the management at Google for making an historic commitment to fast-track technology development in renewable energy."

"Google's focus on solar thermal electric, advanced wind power, and geothermal energy is excellent, and consistent with their goal of generating renewable electricity at a cost lower than coal-fired power. This gets to the heart of the matter, bringing renewable energy into the mainstream and powering our economy."

"Our confidence is high on this commitment by Google to develop renewable energy technologies, because they have already hired world-class talent to manage the business, and are putting sufficient resources in their hands to achieve major results."

"It might strike some people as odd that Google would get into the renewable energy field, but I think of Google as a transformative technology company, and that philosophy is very welcome in the renewable energy business today. We are at the beginning of a century of transformative technology change in energy and fuels. This is the era when society will escape from an 'energy production' mentality to an 'energy technology' mentality. Google and companies like it can play very well in that race."
