Sentec partner, OnStream, wins at European Smart Metering Awards

Cambridge, 28 Jan, 2010 - Sentec, the smart grid technology specialist, is pleased to announce that its partner, OnStream, a National Grid company, has triumphed at the European Smart Metering Awards, taking both the Metering Manufacturer & Technology of the Year and the Innovation of the Year categories. This prestigious accolade, adjudicated by a panel of industry specialists, recognise the success of the meters launched by OnStream last year that are bringing Sentec's Mobius sensing technology to the UK market.

The meters, which employ Sentec's leading-edge current sensing technology, were designed to be fully upgradable and future-proofed to meet the needs of the rapidly changing UK market along with future standards decisions. The models are robust, reliable, and feature excellent memory capacity and performance. They also have the capability to select the strongest mobile network available, vital in the UK where signal interruption is commonplace.

"We are proud that we have been recognised for our innovative approach with these industry awards. We have received very positive feedback from the industry for these meters, and it is gratifying to have that reinforced in this way," said Keith Hawkins, Strategy and Smart Development Manager for OnStream. "With the national roll-out of smart meters in the UK due to commence next year, it is vital that we line up the best possible technology to support the project's success."

Mark England, CEO of Sentec added: "We are thrilled that OnStream has received this double award. Bespoke country-specific metering, such as OnStream's meters with Mobius technology, is something that Sentec is becoming increasingly involved in, with an expansion across Europe planned in 2011. It's good to see some new, innovative models for smart deployment being adopted."

Sentec will continue to support OnStream as it rolls smart meters out across the UK.

Dynapower - MAXIMIZE PRODUCTION AND REVENUES WITH SOLAR PLUS STORAGE

The addition of energy storage to an existing or new utility-scale PV installation allows system owners and operators the opportunity to capture additional revenues. Traditional storage plus solar applications have involved the coupling of independent storage and PV inverters at an AC bus or the use of multi-input hybrid inverters. An alternative approach - coupling energy storage to PV arrays with a DC-to-DC converter - can help maximize production and profits for existing and new utility-scale installations. DC-Coupled Utility-Scale Solar Plus Storage leads to higher round-trip efficiencies and lower cost of integration with existing PV arrays and at the same time, opens up new revenue streams not possible with traditional AC-coupled storage, including clipping recapture and low voltage harvesting, while being eligible for valuable tax incentives.
