League 2 side, Barnet FC have announced that their new training ground is set to be powered by solar energy.
The plans which have been announced show that the training facilities for the club's players will be made an awful lot greener than they have ever been in the past with 800 solar pv panels set to be fitted. The 800 new solar panels will generate the majority of the training ground's electricity.
The 44 acre site which the players train at will dramatically cut down its carbon footprint and it will also begin to produce a lot cleaner electricity.
The club have invested £400,000 in the project and they will have the solar panels in place by March 2 and they are set to be powering the offices, changing rooms and also the dining facilities. Also, Barnet have also got solar panels that will be able to store enough energy to be able to power the floodlights at the ground after dark.
A number of football clubs probably have the ability to do this and could lower the carbon footprint of the football clubs up and down the country which in turn will lower the carbon footprint of the country.
