Dr.-Ing. Bernd Krautkremer, Fraunhofer Institute IWES, Head of Bioenergy System Technology, Germany, is Conference General Chairman of the 20th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition

The 20th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (20th EU BC&E) will take place in downtown Milan, Italy on June this year. The Conference will run from 18 to 22 June and the Exhibition from 18 to 21 June. Dr. Krautkremer is supported by the Technical Programme Coordination group composed of Dr. Heinz Ossenbrink, Dr. David Baxter and Dr. Jean-François Dallemand, Joint Research Centre (JRC), Institute for Energy and Transport, European Commission. The International Scientific Committee, composed of more than 140 experts from the global scientific community contributes to set-up the EU BC&E Conference programme to the highest scientific standards.

Programme:

The international science and technology Conference of the 20th EU BC&E is the leading Conference in the field of Biomass comprising more than 800 presentations in plenary, oral and visual sessions. The 20th EU BC&E attracts policy and industry decision makers through several parallel events addressing special topics which are currently in the focus of discussion.

The subjects of the 20th EU BC&E result from the experiences of the previous successful EU BC&E conferences. The subjects have been further developed and structured and include the most recent scientific, technology, and market trends.

All biomass specialists are invited to contribute and to present innovative developments, progress, and scientific results to the global biomass community and to submit their abstracts by 30 January 2012.

2012 a special focus on: Biogas, Biowaste, Bioenergy and Smart Grids:
In addition to the Conference Programme, the 20th EU BC&E features four thematic highlights with strong industry relevance. These are ‘conference-in-conference' events that fully address current ‘hot topics' in the biomass sector:
• A parallel event on ‘Biogas upgrading and grid injection'
• A special industry show on ‘Biogas goes Europe'
• A further side event on ‘Biowaste to Energy'
• A forum on 'Bioenergy in Smart Grids'
Exhibition:
The exhibition area for the 20th EU BC&E will be expanded in 2012 and adapted to the new industry topics.

Background:
For many years now, the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EU BC&E) has combined a renowned international scientific conference with an industry exhibition, where new products and technical innovations from biomass are on show.

The EU BC&E is held at different venues throughout Europe, and ranks as one of the leading events specialized in biomass. It is supported by European and international organisations such as the European Commission, UNESCO - United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation - Natural Sciences Sector, Regione Lombardia, WCRE - World Council for Renewable Energy, and EUBIA - the European Biomass Industry Association. The Technical Programme is coordinated by the European Commission, DG Joint Research Centre.
