June 21, 2012

Portland, ME
The Maine Wind Industry Initiative (MWII) received recognition this week for its public and industry educational efforts in the areas of wind and ocean energy. Energy Ocean International 2012 presented the Academic Pioneer Award to MWII Director, Paul Williamson, during its annual conference held this year in Boston, June 19-21.

MWII received the award for its efforts to provide market and supply chain information to the Maine and regional industry sector, as well as for the educational outreach provided to the public through activities such as the Maine Wind Blade Challenge and workshops provided to school and youth groups.

"It is a real honor to be recognized for the work we have been performing for the last 4 years," said Paul Williamson. "The recognition should be share with the partnering organizations that make our work possible including MCA, AGC, MAMe, E2Tech, MMTA, the University of Maine and the Island Institute. The environmental and economic opportunities from wind and ocean energy represent great promise to the state of Maine. It is important that Maine people understand the great value of these opportunities."

The Energy Ocean International Academic Pioneer Award is presented to an organization (government, not-for-profit, educational institution, etc.) that has made significant contribution toward promoting and educating the public and industry about Ocean Energy uses, feasibility, benefits and/or suitable locations for implementation of the technologies.
