Technology breakthrough in offshore wind design analysis

Previously there has been no single software tool available on the market that covers both wind turbine and substructure design analysis in one analysis package. Now Fedem Technology and DNV Software have joined forces with a new coupled analysis module available in Sesam Wind – used when performance of the wind turbine is influenced by wave loading

The offshore wind turbine industry will benefit from this new and innovative, user-friendly software solution including dynamic simulations, advanced fatigue calculation and code check in one complete analysis package. The new module for coupled analysis is powered by FEDEM Windpower, and is well integrated with Sesam. It is the most recent addition to DNV Software's product portfolio in Sesam Wind.

"It saves costs by optimisation of wind turbine design and work processes," says Svein Gjlmesli, Fedem Technology's Software Manager, about the fully integrated analysis system.

Sesam Wind Coupled Analysis powered by FEDEM Windpower has capabilities ranging from the purely mechanical aspects of a wind turbine to customisable control systems and detailed wind and wave load simulations. This makes Sesam Wind a versatile software package for complete dynamic modelling and analysis of any wind turbine project. Through optimisation of wind turbine design and work processes, the industry will be able to increase efficiency and save cost.

With the new module, Sesam Wind incorporates state-of-the-art algorithms geared toward structural analysis, completing DNV Software's solutions for wind turbine design, strength and fatigue analysis. Many different users – from substructure designers and turbine manufacturers to wind park operators and verification bodies – will benefit from the new package.

"The demand for renewable energy is growing rapidly and offshore wind is a significant part of renewable energy sources. Offshore wind installations are facing the same structural integrity challenges as traditional offshore engineering with structural design, hydrodynamic loads, global stresses and fatigue. In addition there are challenges with loads generated from the turbine itself and turbine rotor blades. As offshore wind is moving into deeper waters, engineering of offshore wind installations will take full benefit of Sesam, whether the installation is based on fixed structures, floating structures, shallow waters or deeper waters. With its leading position within offshore engineering, the offshore wind segment is a natural part of the Sesam strategy going forward," says Are Fllesdal Tjnn, Managing Director at DNV Software.

RBI Solar - Dahlia Has You Covered

What if you could maximize the Ground Coverage Ratio (GCR) on your next project and not have to worry about the complicated variables that come with a tracker system? With a low tilt and clearance design, Dahlia® has the highest GCR of any fixed-tilt system in the marketplace. The system is available in three tilt options (7.5, 10 and 12.5 degrees) and designed to accommodate any sized PV module. The lightweight system is engineered with fewer components, several of which are shipped to job sites pre-assembled. This design feature reduces freight costs and rapidly trims the amount of on-site installation time required to complete construction. Maximizing PV coverage on a site can lead to an increase of production, which creates greater financial return for project owners. Over 100 MW of Dahlia® projects have been deployed across the United States, in regions of variable snow and wind loads. How much can Dahlia® cover and save you on your next project?
