San Francisco October 29, 2013
At the 2013 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon held in Southern California, four homes out of 19 featured NanaWall Systems, the industry leader in opening glass wall systems. This year, the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) team, featuring NanaWall units, was the highest ranked U.S. team and won the Market Appeal contest.
Every two years, the Solar Decathlon challenges collegiate teams to design and build houses that are affordable, energy-efficient and attractive. The contests are designed to gauge how well a project performs, measuring everything from maintaining a specific temperature range in the home to producing solar energy that runs household appliances.
The UNLV project, DesertSol, featured NanaWall Systems in every room of the house and won the important Market Appeal contest (scoring 94 out of a possible 100 points), defeating Vienna University of Technology and Stanford. UNLV's entry earned a total of 947.6 points, securing its position as highest ranked U.S. team in the competition.
"We are once again pleased to support collegiate teams in the Solar Decathlon, and this year is no exception. Since 2005, NanaWall opening glass wall systems have played a significant role in nearly a dozen different solar decathlon homes," said Ebrahim Nana, CEO of NanaWall Systems. "We are proud to be a part of UNLV's award-winning project."
The other Solar Decathlon teams that incorporated NanaWall Systems units into their projects include:
*Stevens Institute of Technology with project "Ecohabit"
*University of Texas at El Paso and El Paso Community College with project "ADAPT"
*University of Southern California with project "fluxHome"
This year more than 60,000 visitors toured the houses showcased at the Solar Decathlon.
