Attendees of MENASOL 2014 (6-7th May, Dubai) will be given the opportunity to visit the 100MW Shams 1 power plant in Abu Dhabi, the largest parabolic trough power plant in the world.

Shams 1 is the Middle East's largest and only operational CSP power plant and one of the largest in the world. With a power output of 100MW, Shams 1 solar field extends to over 600,000 m2 and it has over 250,000 mirrors.

Delegates will get an exclusive look at this desert power plant on the 8th May, hosted by Shams Power Company and it allows for extended networking opportunities with fellow visitors. MENASOL event director Letty Thomas said " The chance to see a working CSP Plant up close is a rare one in any country, and to see the first utility- scale CSP plant in operation is unique and extremely exciting. The site visit is a fantastic opportunity for the CSP industry to ask questions of the plant experts and get a better understanding of how to construct and operate CSP plants."

Abdulaziz Al-Obaidli, Process Performance Engineer at Shams Power Company will also be presenting and analysing real performance data on Shams 1 at the MENASOL event, to show how this landmark plant is performing and the transferable lessons and data which can be taken from it. Abdulaziz will also be participating in a panel discussion on the adaptation of parabolic trough, Fresnel and tower technologies to desert conditions and the key challenges faced during both the construction and operational phases of the power plant.
