Solarplaza announces crowdfunding conference for the renewable energy sector
Solarplaza Empowering The Solar Future
LONDON, 21 August 2014 - The first Renewable Energy Crowdfunding Conference will take place at Dexter House, London on 30th October 2014. Organised by Solarplaza, the event aims to connect leaders in crowdfunding with project developers, investors and funders interested in participating in crowdfunding projects focused on the renewable energy sector.
Crowdfunding has become a credible source of finance for new ventures. It is also proving to be a powerful method to quickly raise capital for renewable energy projects worldwide, be it based on producing a steady financial return for a multitude of investors or enabling a community to finance a renewable energy project for a shared building.
Delegates will have the opportunity to learn more about the challenges and regulations attached to crowdfunding, observing, first hand, its full potential in the renewable energy sector.
Paul van der Linden, vice president of Solarplaza, has stated the importance of crowdfunding in the renewable energy sector: "Crowdfunding is a game-changer for renewable energy projects. It has become a serious source of capital in kick-starting new ventures. This has been proven by the likes of Mosaic and Abundance, who have raised $8 million and $10 million respectively.
"The Renewable Energy Crowdfunding Conference provides an excellent platform to meet like-minded individuals from across the sector. Delegates have the opportunity to learn about this unique type of investment from individuals and organisations who have already benefited."
Industry experts from leading organisations and associations will present on a range of topics including: Gregory Rosen, chief investment officer at Mosaic, Bruce Davis, managing director of Abundance Generation, and Julia Groves, managing director of Trillion Fund.
The influence of crowdfunding has grown substantially. In the last five years, over $10 billion has been raised through crowdfunding platforms. This figure has increased from $500 million in 2009, with a 100% increase since 2013. Crowdfunding is set to develop even further, with an estimated growth of 76% per year.
Already, over 50 industry leaders have confirmed their involvement, including Mosaic, Abundance Generation, Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Trillion Fund, Palmetto, res and Statkraft.
