Upsolar and Photon Energy Team Up on Municipal Project in UK

Companies bring 309 kWp PV array to Essex Waste Partnership

MILTON KEYNES, UNITED KINGDOM – March 25, 2015 – Upsolar, a leading provider of solar PV modules and services, today announced the commissioning of a 309 kWp solar PV array in Basildon, Essex, England. The project was constructed in partnership with Photon Energy, one of the UK's leading independent solar installers.

Featuring 788 Upsolar UP-M250P and 442 Upsolar UP255P modules and eight Power-One inverters, the rooftop array provides solar energy for a new high-tech mechanical and biological treatment plant, which processes up to 417,000 tonnes of municipal waste each year. The system is now generating enough renewable power to cover approximately 10 percent of the electricity needs across the facility and its visitor education centre.
This project is part of the Essex Waste Partnership, a collaboration across 13 local government agencies established to ensure cost-efficient and sustainable waste management in Essex County and Southend.
"Our consultative approach to the bidding process, coupled with the quality and flexibility of our Upsolar-powered design, helped make this project a success for our client, Balfour Beatty," said Robert Alford, Photon Energy's commercial manager. "With our technical expertise and collaborative communications style we were able to deliver this high-performance project on time, and on a tight budget."
"The municipal solar market is ripe with opportunity in the UK, and we're seeing an increased interest in the economic and environmental advantages of solar power for public properties," said Martin Prest, Upsolar's UK National Sales Manager. "Working with Photon Energy on this project for the Essex Waste Partnership showcases solar's ability to benefit an entire community, and we look forward to participating in similar projects across the region."
