Fastest Growing Energy Storage Conference Set for April 25-27 in Charlotte, NC

Energy Storage Association Annual Conference and Expo - #ESACon16 - Offers Unparalleled Executive Insight and Business Development Opportunities

WASHINGTON, Feb. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 2,000 energy storage professionals are expected to attend the Energy Storage Association's (ESA) 26th Annual Conference and Expo in Charlotte, NC, from April 25-27. The industry's fastest growing event, the ESA Conference - #ESACon16 - will bring together senior leadership from utilities, suppliers, project developers, financiers, and customers for three days of world-class speakers and workshops covering energy storage technology, policy, trends and market growth. The expo will also showcase energy storage innovations and services on its expansive trade show floor.

"Storage is set to redefine how we generate, distribute and consume energy. Across the United States, numerous successful energy storage projects have been deployed at every scale - and 2016 will be a watershed year for market growth," said Matt Roberts, Executive Director of ESA. "With expanding value for multiple grid applications, larger utility procurements and plummeting system costs, the global market for energy storage is set to nearly double in the year ahead."

"The growth in the storage industry has been phenomenal the past few years, and ESA has been there driving this growth every step of the way. This is the place to do business, develop partnerships and engage in the energy storage industry," said Jeff Gates, Chair of ESA Board of Directors. "Our conference is the only event that directly supports the mission of the industry—to accelerate the adoption of cost effective and reliable energy storage systems. It's known for bringing together the most influential and knowledgeable people in energy storage from around the globe, and creating a forum to share knowledge and advance the industry."

In 2016, ESA will continue its tradition of providing influential and informative education for attendees, with more than 80,000 feet of trade show and exhibition space, featuring technology suppliers, project developers and customers.

The conference boasts 8 tracks of educational sessions, more than 150 expert speakers, and keynote addresses from innovative executives like utility CEO Mary Powell of Green Mountain Power; Praveer Sinha, CEO of Tata Power's Delhi Distribution, Ltd.; Michael O'Sullivan of NextEra; and Richard McMahon of the Edison Electric Institute.

The conference workshops and sessions are developed by experts from all facets of the energy industry, and is supported by more than 25 leading organizations, including Host Utility Duke Energy, the Edison Electric Institute, Solar Electric Power Association, American Council on Renewable Energy, Solar Energy Industries Association, National Electrical Manufacturers Association and other associations from around the world.

ESA chose Charlotte for this year's conference venue because the city is the second largest banking center in the country, one of the top markets for renewables and home to numerous Fortune 500 energy companies.

The addition of energy storage to an existing or new utility-scale PV installation allows system owners and operators the opportunity to capture additional revenues. Traditional storage plus solar applications have involved the coupling of independent storage and PV inverters at an AC bus or the use of multi-input hybrid inverters. An alternative approach - coupling energy storage to PV arrays with a DC-to-DC converter - can help maximize production and profits for existing and new utility-scale installations. DC-Coupled Utility-Scale Solar Plus Storage leads to higher round-trip efficiencies and lower cost of integration with existing PV arrays and at the same time, opens up new revenue streams not possible with traditional AC-coupled storage, including clipping recapture and low voltage harvesting, while being eligible for valuable tax incentives.
