PVinsights:Polysilicon price uptrend softens after the scheduling production retrieval of REC silicon

Polysilicon rally turns slow this week as the REC silicon production retrieval has alleviated buyer¡¦s speculation on supply shortage. Although polysilicon price in China continues on the rise, the scope is relatively incremental as compared to the past few weeks. In addition, since the non-American polysilicon suppliers have increased shipments to China for better spot prices, the supply level in overseas has become rather limited, leading the price in overseas to increase obviously this week. Nevertheless, the polysilicon has gradually losing its momentum amid the speculations on increasing supply level.

Solar panel price continues to plummet this week as intense price competition persists. Amid the sluggish demand in China, solar panel prices remain pressured since some Chinese module makers have to comply with slashed prices in order to gain more orders. In Japan, some 1st tier Chinese manufacturer also leads local price to tumble as it intends to capture more market shares and also enjoy rather generous FIT rates. In India, the intense competition between local module makers and foreign module makers continues to drive down prices of solar panels, since solar project investors intend to win solar project actions through the lower biding. Meanwhile, some major Chinese module makers pay more attention to the US market, where the ASP has the best premium and the outlook forecasts to boom, by offering slashed prices through their rapidly expanded trade-friendly capacities, forcing non-American suppliers to compromise on lower prices and leading the solar panel price in the US to fall dramatically. Solar module prices in EU continue to be suppressed, as solar module makers have room for lower module prices to reflect the sharply dropped multi-crystalline cell prices in the past two months. As the result, overall solar panel prices remain pressured due to the fierce price competition lead by major module makers.

The price slump of multi-crystalline cell has become mildly this week. The solar cell makers intend to stabilize the price by strategies of switching orders to higher efficiency products or to increase the stock levels. Meanwhile, the competitions between solar cell makers also become tame recently since the price fell too sharply in the past two months. Nevertheless, since the demand has yet to recover and the order visibility remains unclear, pressures on multi-crystalline cell price still remains. Meanwhile, the mono-crystalline cell continues to tumble. The mono-crystalline cell maker, Sunrise, has adopted the pricing strategy aiming to increasing its market shares in China. With such pricing strategy, other major solar cell makers, such as Motech and NSP, will also force to comply with lower price quotes. In addition, mono PREC cell price slumps with dimmed order visibility due to the bankruptcy of Sunedison, which negatively impacts mono-crystalline cell prices.

The correction of multi-crystalline wafer price remains incremental due to the solid demand. Although the consumption has decreased slightly, overall demand has not much deteriorated. Hence, with the solid demand, even though the buyers have requested for the further price reduction, the multi-crystalline wafer makers are still reluctant to comply. On the other hand, mono-crystalline wafer price remains steady this week due to the support of demand improvement in China. As China government has hiked minimum power-generating efficiency standards for feed-in tariff eligibility, the demand of mono-crystalline wafer has strengthened steadily in China, leading the price of mono-crystalline wafer to remain stable.
