Talking RE+ with LG

Q&A with Jim Brown, Senior Account Manager | LG Electronics USA’s Energy Storage Systems (ESS) division

Tell us about your company.

The LG Electronics Energy Storage Systems (ESS) business, based in Alpharetta, Ga., represents a fast-growing new area for LG in the United States, leveraging the company's renewable energy expertise to unlock value for customers. Headquartered in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., LG Electronics USA Inc. is the North American subsidiary of LG Electronics Inc., a $68 billion global innovator in technology and manufacturing. In the United States, LG sells a wide range of innovative home appliances, home entertainment products, commercial displays, air conditioning and energy systems, and vehicle components. LG is a 10-time ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year. www.LG.com.

Your company will be exhibiting at RE+. What is it that makes this an important event for your company?

LG Electronics USA is returning to RE+ to showcase the residential LG ESS Home 8 one year after its U.S. debut, as well as feature its commercial energy storage solutions. RE+ 2023 is an essential event for the entire LG Electronics USA ESS sales team. It allows us to have meaningful conversations with customers, our LG PRO Partner participants, and others interested in what we have to offer. Attendees can visit us on level two of the Sands Expo Hall at booth #4717.

What makes your booth a must-visit for RE+ Attendees?

Our booth this year is unlike any other. Under the campaign, “Hello, my name is…”, LG’s display is designed to create personalized, meaningful connections with the ESS industry, offering a greater understanding of LG Electronics USA’s work and products. On the back of our booth, we have an interactive wall where attendees can write on “name tags” and share what alternative energy means to them. It’s the opportunity to write a little love letter to the ESS industry and share it with the world on social media.

RE+ has many educational sessions, forums & demos. Is your company involved in any of them this year?

LG Electronics USA is hosting the Power Breakfast for Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) members in the Toscana Ballroom at the Venetian Hotel from 8-9 AM PST on Wednesday, September 13th. This is an excellent opportunity to meet and mingle with SEIA members and fuel up before a long day on the trade floor.

When you get a chance to walk the exhibit hall floor yourself, what is it you will be most interested to see?  Any educational sessions, pavilions etc. you plan on attending?

Our team is most interested to see the new technology being rolled out this year. We’re also greatly looking forward to re-introducing LG Electronics ESS and exploring new connections with installers and others in the industry who may be new to our work/products.

Alternative Energy is undertaking rapid advancements, be it Solar Power, Energy Storage, or Smart Grid.  Data and Automation is a huge part for many companies—give us an idea on how your company and product is utilizing advancements in data and automation.

We provide two intuitive tools to help homeowners and installers manage the LG ESS Home 8 Energy Storage System.
Built for homeowners, the LG ThinQ® app allows seamless management of the LG ESS Home 8 system from the mobile app. Plus, it connects all things LG Electronics within the home—from refrigerators to washing machines to the LG ESS Home 8 system—making it easier than ever to manage and monitor energy usage across appliances.
Our installer-focused platform, LG EnerVu®, empowers LG PRO installers to monitor every LG ESS Home 8 they have installed from a standard Internet browser. EnerVu offers real-time insight into equipment function, reporting, and LG ESS Home 8 status information so installers can provide prompt, outstanding customer service.

Give us your thoughts on what the future holds for the Alternative Energy Industry.

The alternative energy industry is constantly growing and evolving. Every day, we see new technologies roll out to the market. One trend we’re seeing becoming increasingly popular with homeowners is using an energy storage system as a virtual power plant (VPP). VPPs allow homeowners to utilize their ESS to store energy and then sell it back to utility companies during peak hours of consumption. On top of other incentives like the Inflation Reduction Act, there’s opportunity for very favorable economics when purchasing an energy storage system.
