Energy suppliers face change. New forms of alternative energies, new network technologies and the transition to the digital world all present challenges. There are lessons to be learned about how to make the new world work.
The need for renewable energy is high, but governments need to commit to salvation of the future. Short-term goals shouldnt come at the cost of our future.
The need for good data is foremost. A swing of just a half percentage point in the actual output of solar energy plants-compared to projected outputs-would represent about $165 million annually.
There are two standards governing EV charging. In the U.S. there is the SAE J1772 standard, while in Europe and China the IEC61851 standard is used.
The Emerging Relationship between Distributed Energy Resources and the Transmission System.
India has surely set up an ambitious goal of 175 GW of Renewable Energy by 2022, with solar and wind as the mainstream players aiming 100 GW (60 GW of Grid Interactive and 40 GW Rooftop) and 60 GW respectively.
VTT is seeking a carbon capture technology for Finnish power and heat production plants. The first pilots were implemented, using wood pellets, at VTTs Bioruukki and the results are promising.
There still seems to be some confusion in the marketplace surrounding specific types of tracking applications, especially when it comes to independent row, self-powered trackers (SPTs)
One area which benefits from digitisation is the evaluation of data from periodic turbine testing and inspection reports.
Statement issued by the World Energy Council on 9 October 2016 ahead of the 23rd World Energy Congress
For energy traders and utilities, profitability in this complex and evolving market requires a full and complete picture of assets, operations, positions and risk exposures. Too many utilities are still labouring under a painful burden of data management challenges, including lack of automation, multiple disparate systems and data formats.
Valuable Lessons in Co-existence
In Part I of this blog post Eric Every, Yaskawa - Solectria Senior Applications Engineer, explores cases in which PV system designers should use Y-connectors, what the code implications may be, how they may be used with internal inverter combiners.
The floor team knows what to ask visitors and how to present our value to them. And for the most part, visitors are receptive and give us quite a positive response.
This series will focus on these questions in the area of transmission planning (regional load forecasting and solutions to identified grid needs), wholesale market design, and facilitation of utility business model reform.

The NeON R module features "Back Contact" cell technology delivering an entirely black panel that is aesthetically pleasing and energy efficient. The cell's seamless, surface blends perfectly into nearly all rooftop designs while the module's electrodes are positioned on the rear of the cell. Using LG's N-type cell structure, the panels produce 365W of energy, up to 7.3kWp, compared to 5.8kWp of the p-type cell. The module's new design minimizes LID, thereby delivering a longer lifespan and increased energy output.
